Chocolate Rum Balls covered in powdered sugar/cocoa powder

Thanksgiving may have passed, but there are still more holiday festivities and gatherings that will be taking place over the next two months. If you’re tired of the typical holiday food you see on the table, try this interesting, boozy recipe that will have all your friends grabbing for. These are the perfect holiday treats and also an easy, no-bake dessert to make. Since this is a very versatile recipe, feel free to have fun with it. You can switch the recipe around by using different types of cookies of your choice such as Nilla wafers, ginger snaps, Oreos, or even brownies. The same goes for your choice of poison, although the dessert’s name says rum, you can choose to put in tequila, whiskey, or even bourbon.

Transform Your Space with Wall Decor

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

One way to make your space unique and reflect your individual style is to decorate the walls within your home. Recently, I’ve fallen in love with gallery walls, floating shelves, and anything that adds a nice touch to a plain wall. With so many options, an empty wall acts as a blank canvas, waiting for you to add your own style to it.

5 Places to Shop for Home Decor

Venturing on a new project for your house or apartment is always an exciting moment, but it can also be overwhelming. While I wish my room could instantly transform into images from my Pinterest board, the hunt to find actual pieces you want to purchase can be a daunting task. When I go shopping for home decor, I like to look for unique and beautifully curated pieces. With so many home decor stores both online and in retail stores, picking out which items to buy can be stressful and tedious – especially for someone as indecisive as me. To help ease the process and avoid spending hours surfing the web, here are five of my favorite furniture and decor stores to shop at. The first two stores are smaller-sized businesses independently owned. You should definitely check out their stores if you are all about supporting local businesses. The other three are easily accessible stores great for finding those budget friendly pieces.

FORMERLY YES

Located in Downtown Los Angeles, the intentional minimal interior of the store lives up to its motto, “A store for people who want to buy less, but better.” Owned by husband-and-wife Brad and Jenna, Formerly Yes started off as an online store and their new space is a pleasing addition to the city.

THE APARTMENT BY THE LINE

The Line brings carefully chosen products from emerging designers, merging fashion, home, and beauty in one space. Their Los Angeles store is located on Melrose Place. Everyone should give this store a visit whether they need some new ideas or inspiration because walking into The Line is like walking into the apartment of your dreams.

IKEA

Beautiful designs at great prices – Ikea has become a guaranteed store to visit for people shopping for their home. Swedish design offered at low prices, everyone is sure to find a bargain while shopping. The never ending rows chairs and different types of lamps to choose from can become overwhelming, so make sure you plan ahead before entering the massive store.

CRATE AND BARREL

Crate and Barrel is the first store that comes to mind whenever I need to buy something for a party or whenever I plan to have guests come over. I’ve purchased cheese boards, wine glasses, cocktail sets all from C&B and have loved every purchase.

ANTHROPOLOGIE

Whenever I step into Anthropologie, I like to imagine myself being a mother and buying all my cookbooks and furniture here. Owned by the same company, Anthropologie reminds me of the more mature mother-version of Urban Outfitters. Even if you are not in the search for a new dresser or couch, you should stop by their home section and check out their lovely scented candles or buy a greeting card for a friend.

The Best Cocktails to Make This Fall

cocktail5

Fall has finally arrived, and with the season come cozy sweaters, rainy days, and delicious food. Although having wine and beer at the table is very traditional with the holidays, changing things up with a flavorful cocktail will surprise and impress your guests. Apple pie, cranberry, thyme, cinnamon, and spiced pear mixed with your favorite liquors end up as a deliciously-seasonal beverage. These are my three favorite cocktails that will make the perfect pair to your Thanksgiving and fall-inspired meals. Not only are these recipes (seriously!) easy to make, they are beautifully presented and filled with fall flavors.

3 Independent Magazines Every Hostess Should Read

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Creating a space in a home that reflects one’s unique style is something many people enjoy. Not only do I enjoy it, but I also love to share it by inviting friends and family into my home. Opening up your home and sharing a meal that you put your own time and effort to create is like sharing a part of you. As someone lacking professional experience in neither interior design nor cooking, it definitely helps to get an idea or two from other places, and while the Internet can be a great resource to find inspiration, it can also get monotonous, and the replicas you see in every page can lack originality.

Though the term “print is dead” rings true to many publishing industries, the world of small, independent magazines are beginning to rise – introducing a new and exciting realm to the print industry. These independent magazines cover daring and personal stories from real people that mainstream magazines lack the ability to do. Whether you need a visually appealing coffee table book or some inspiration to flip through, these magazines curated specifically for home lovers should definitely be given a read. Covering everything from home design to recipes for parties and gatherings, these magazines will give you refreshing ideas on how to curate a beautiful space in your home – as well as new ways to spend time with friends and family.

Here are the Hostess Embodied’s top three recommendations of independent magazines:
